Jack & Jack, Beg © IslandPop Duo Jack & Jack, comprised of Jack Edward Johnson and Jack Gilinsky, drop an enjoyable new single, “Beg.”

What’s better than one Jack? Two Jacks. Okay, okay, lame joke.  Jack & Jack are not lame, however.  The pop duo is comprised of Jack Edward Johnson and Jack Gilinsky, who are life-long friends, and both 21. The pair have yet to release a full-length album, but have released EPs.  They return with a new single, “Beg.”

“Beg” features sexy vocals that are smooth and ‘easy-going’ in regards to the sound.  Vocal harmonies incorporated are solid – nothing too crazy. Throughout its course, “Beg” has great production touches. These touches include the synths, guitars, and drum programming.  Again, there’s nothing ‘over-the-top’ about the backdrop, but it’s pleasant. Arguably, a bit fuller production work wouldn’t have hurt.

There are a couple of cons.  “Beg” never quite percolates as much as the listener wants it to.  While it doesn’t remain completely static by any means, the climax feels like a letdown.  Another con is the fact that it’s censored (“Don’t f— me up…”). Why drop the f-bomb if you’re not going to use it in any verse of the recording? Not condoning profanity, but the censorship takes away from the emotions.  A better choice is not use the word at all and replace it with another.  The missing word leaves the listener hanging.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Jack & Jack have an enjoyable single on their hands.  The pros outweigh the cons. That said, “Beg” could’ve use more ‘killer instinct’ – more oomph. Still, the falsetto goes a long way.
