Hoodie Allen, The HypeHoodie Allen returns with “Ain’t Ready,” the second single from his highly-anticipated, third studio album, The Hype.

Hoodie Allen returns with his highly-anticipated third studio album, The Hype (September 29). There should be plenty of hype surrounding the new project, considering Hoodie brings ‘the heat’ when he drops new music.  In advance of album number three, he dropped a scrumptious promo single, “Sushi.” He returned with more ear candy on his second single, “Know It All.”  Finally, one week in advance of The Hype, he informs the world that they “Ain’t Ready.”

“Ain’t Ready” opens with an urban-pop vibe, led by guitar.  Eventually, a Latin-dance pop groove anchors the record down.  Like the singles preceding it, Hoodie Allen focuses on singing more than rapping. Given his assertive, exuberant tone, he’s certainly more than respectable as a vocalist.  It’s not only singing though – we get some of those signature bars from Hoodie on the second verse. Here, he proclaims to be, “Back on my bullshit like I’m Rondo / Six girls lined up that’s Toronto.” As far as memorability, “Ain’t Ready” is incredibly catchy, particularly the pre-chorus and chorus sections.

Rubs, are there any major ones? No. All in all, Hoodie Allen has everything laid out accordingly on “Ain’t Ready.” The biggest rub is nitpicky – it’d be nice to hear Hoodie spit more bars.  As great as the singing is, one misses hearing his rhymes.  The dude is a lyrical assassin. But, to reiterate, that’s nitpicking, and Allen does give us a few bars.

Final Thoughts

So, how does “Ain’t Ready” stack up from The Hype? All in all, we’re more than ready to see what The Hype as a whole has in store.  As for “Ain’t Ready,” it’s another great piece of the pie.
