“Since I’ve started performing at a young age, I’ve always tried to be original,” Moira Stafrace responds when asked about what makes her unique. She adds that her originality includes her songwriting and wardrobe. Rock on 🤘! After a long stint working in a duo band, the Maltese musician is established as a solo artist, collaborating with various musicians and songwriters. In this intriguing Q&A, we get the inside scoop on Stafrace’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and current and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into Getting to Know… Moira Stafrace: Interview No. 461!
For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes you distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?
Since I’ve started performing at a young age, I’ve always tried to be original, as much as I could, and till now, it’s like my main rule, both in songwriting and wardrobe. I think it’s that same streak and a good vocal line, energy, and fun that make me rock their socks…or whatever!
Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did your music career begin, and what were some of your goals or visions early?
[I] spent 30 years writing, recording, and producing music in a duo band called Chris and Moira. We performed on many platforms, both locally in Malta and away, and worked on various music projects, including Eurovision! Now established as a solo artist, I’m collaborating with various musicians and other songwriters.Yes, they have…we all evolve as artists…our goals included. I aspire to collaborate with talented artists and explore innovative ways to share and make music. Ultimately, I want my music to be heard and enjoyed.
Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences, and how are they influential?
I have always admired Alanis Morissette since the day she started…I think it’s the weirdness in her songwriting that makes it somehow intriguing, and I like that. I find it interesting as I crave that side of being original.
Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.
A man just walked up on stage [while I was] performing, and he started dancing next to me… I was told to ignore him while I carried on playing guitar and singing till he started licking money notes out of his pockets and sticking them on my arms and shoulders!!! At that point, he was dragged off stage! Well, I did make an extra thirty bucks!
“Big bleached Stain,” my song with Chris and Moira band… I wrote it for my parents… A super special song and now it’s more special cos both my parents and Chris passed away.
Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center we should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?
I’m very creative… I create my own wardrobe pieces… I sew especially for the stage… I design my own shoes and have them made.
We are currently in the studio working on new tracks which we will hopefully release in the near future.
Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
Thank you for your interest.
