G-Eazy returns as confident as ever on “The Plan,” the second single from his highly-anticipated third studio album, ‘The Beautiful and the Damned.’ 

G-Eazy has experienced quite the rise to fame.  He’s defied the expectations, particularly for the white male rapper.  It seems that he has some staying power, as he drops his third studio album, The Beautiful & Damned.  After packing a punch with his promo single, “No Limit” featuring A$AP Rocky and Cardi B, he returns solo, informing listeners of “The Plan.”

“The Plan” initiates with an enigmatic, foreboding sound. On the intro, G-Eazy sounds particularly raspy.  This unique start sets up for a hard-hitting, intriguing performance from the rapper. He drops a tough pre-hook before jumping into an agile, equally-tough first verse, amplified by “ayy” and “yeah.” Even with the unapologetic delivery, it’s hard not to smirk, or crack a smile, with lines like, “Popeye just opened the can” or “Tell me, why is your girlfriend my number one fan?” Remaining one cocky SOB, he also brags, “Liquor and women, two things I don’t chase.”

Following the verse, he delivers the pre-hook again, before the listener is privy to the hook for the first time.  On the second half of the chorus, he reiterates a portion of the pre-hook. So creative… Anyways, he spits:

“Thought that was always the plan (no) / Thought that was always the plan (no)… / I might go f*ck up these bands (ayy) / I do this shit ‘cause I can (yeah) / I just took care of my fam (ayy) / Thought that was always the plan (yeah).”

On the second verse, he continues to discuss his come-up, focusing on money and again flexing about his ability to have any girl he desires: “Got tired of my b*tch, I went and got a new one.”  He follows with pre-hook, hook, and then an outro, which is financially driven. Shocker.

Final Thoughts 

G-Eazy is definitely true to himself on “The Plan,” for better or for worse.  If you appreciate his arrogance, hunger, and swagger, then you’ll love “The Plan.” If you feel he’s too arrogant, overconfident, and overrated, “The Plan” won’t change your outlook.  All in all, it’s respectable, but not game changing.
