4 out of 5 stars

Francois Klark, Spaceman © Francois KlarkDo you know who Francois Klark is? If you don’t, you should. The Canadian singer-songwriter-producer proves ‘he’s next’ on his debut single, “Spaceman.”

Francois Klark isn’t a ‘household name’… yet.  He SHOULD be a ‘household name,’ without question. Take one listen to his debut single, “Spaceman,” and you’ll become mesmerized.  There’s something awe-inspiring about “Spaceman” and Klark himself – there’s magic, radiance, and sincerity.  A Canadian singer-songwriter and producer born in South Africa, Klark clearly has that “it” factor. “Spaceman” ends up being an exceptional introduction.

“Spaceman” begins abruptly, sans introduction. Francois Klark delivers smooth, romantic vocals throughout the record, particularly on the verses.  After setting the tone with the first verse, Klark gives us a taste of the impressive pre-chorus, which recurs following the second verse.  Ultimately, the pre-chorus, which is beautifully penned and performed, is a superb lead-in to the chorus.  He sings:

“No journey too far / I will search for you / To the edge of the stars, I will fight for your heart / I will be your spaceman baby.”

The chorus, which naturally follows, isn’t only catchy, but thoughtful and incredibly authentic.  In other words, Klark sells the lyrics well, fueled by genuine emotion.

“To the corners of the universe / I will go to look for you / Where the stars turn cold and the sun burns bold / I will go until I, until I find you / Until I find you…”

Repeating the cycle once again (verse, pre-chorus, and chorus), Klark flaunts his falsetto on the outro.  During this coda section, the nuance of his voice – the cracks, coupled with effects – are distinct.  Also, worth noting about “Spaceman,” in addition to sound songwriting and a well-rounded vocal performance, is the production.  This is sleek, modern production that feels warm and perfectly suits the lyrical content.  The backdrop gives him tremendous inspiration.

Final Thoughts

Francois Klark ‘brings the heat’ on “Spaceman.”  All in all, it’s thoughtful and well-rounded in all facets.  Vocally, Klark has a marvelous instrument to work with.  Clocking in at just over three-and-a-half-minutes, this is a respectable song length – not too little and not too much.  Winner through and through.
