“Women, God-given women / The reason we’re livin’ and lovin’ this life, hallelujah.” Florida Georgia Line are back…  For fans and ‘Stan(s),’ perhaps we follow the ellipsis with the phrase, “…in all their glory.”  For those more skeptical, perhaps it’s best to follow the ellipses with the question, “Why” or perhaps “Why the hell are they still making music?” Basically, what I’m saying is that the country duo remains a polarizing act with its fair share of fans and haters.  Ahead of the release of their fourth studio album, Can’t Say I Ain’t Country, FGL enlists urban-pop standout Jason Derulo for the assist on single “Women.”

Obviously, with a title like “Women,” Florida Georgia Line doesn’t exactly ‘shock the world’ or leave much to the imagination.  That’s not unheard of for country music mind you, but there’s definitely nothing ground breaking.  Honestly, perhaps the most innovative thing about “Women” is the fact that FGL go out of genre and collaborate with Jason Derulo, who sings on the second verse.  That said, FGL have also already ‘been there, done that’ so…  That said, as the boys pay ode to the opposite sex, there are some pros.  The production plays true to country, yet also has some soulfulness.  Derulo’s ad-libs, runs, and falsetto are also #winning, adding the ‘cherry on top,’ particularly towards the end of the record.

Final Thoughts

Florida Georgia Line remain true to self on “Women.” Honestly, this record reminds me of “God, Your Mama, and Me”, which also tapped pop musicians, Backstreet Boys.  “Women” has its fair share of moments (the production, Derulo’s vocal contributions), while it also lacks original ideas.
