Florida Georgia Line, Dig Your Roots © Big MachineFlorida Georgia Line shines on final ‘Dig Your Roots’ pre-release single “God, Your Mama, And Me,” thanks to an assist from Backstreet Boys

Ahead of thier third album Dig Your Roots, country duo Florida Georgia Line have released a six singles.  The Musical Hype missed reviewing only one of those, “Smooth.”  After reviewing the majority, some of FGL’s singles worked and others were so-so at best.  The final single prior to Dig Your Roots, “God, Your Mama, And Me,” features boyband Backstreet Boys.  It could’ve been a #epic fail, but alas, it actually works.

Interestingly, “God, Your Mama, And Me” is firmly country.  The twang by FGL confirms the lack of compromise.  After “Life is a Honeymoon” eschewed country, “God, Your Mama, And Me” embraces it.  It makes perfect sense – God and family are essentials in both country music and the south in general.

The big chorus affirms the “love” spread throughout the course of the record.  The prevalence of voices on the chorus gives “God, Your Mama, And Me” a gigantic, triumphant sound.

“Never gonna run dry, never gonna come up empty / now until the day I die, unconditionally / you know I’m always gonna be here for ya / no one’s ever gonna love you more than / God, your mama, and me / God, your mama, and me / unconditionally, God, your mama, and me”

Final Thoughts

Overall, “God, Your Mama, And Me” is pleasant. It features a catchy chorus that definitely won’t leave one’s head.  The depth of voices amplifies the soaring nature and sentiment of the song. Florida Georgia Line prudently keeps this record country and doesn’t entertain more pop means.  Verdict – success.
