Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber join forces once again for the catchy, enjoyable single, “I Don’t Care.” While not game changing, it has ‘hit’ written all over it.

What happens when you put Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber together? Typically, the result is a hit. Not just any hit mind you, but a mega-hit. The latest collaboration between these two pop powerhouses, “I Don’t Care” sounds like ‘money in the bank’ for sure. That said, how good is “I Don’t Care” and is it a game changing pop record?
The premise of this up-tempo, major-key pop joint is pretty simple. Neither Ed Sheeran or Justin Bieber are feeling the nightlife – parties, clubbing, and such – anymore. Both of them simply want to be with their respective baes. From the start, Sheeran asserts “I’m at a party I don’t wanna be at” (verse one), later confirming his social anxiety on the pre-chorus (“Don’t think I fit in at this party / Everyone’s got so much to say”). It’s the same scenario for Bieber on the second verse and pre-chorus, but he’s willing to stay because “[She] make(s) it better like that.” On the chorus, sung by Sheeran, ‘it’s all good’ thanks to the baes.
“‘Cause I don’t care when I’m with my baby, yeah
All the bad things disappear
Yeah, you’re making me feel like maybe I am somebody
I can deal with the bad nights when I’m with my baby, yeah.”
Final Thoughts
So, answering the aforementioned posed question, how good is “I Don’t Care” and is it a game changing pop record? All in all, it’s a pleasant, fun-enough pop cut that puts pop royalty together once more. That said, it’s not game changing in the least – ‘been there, done that’ – and arguably, the sound of the record itself sounds all too familiar. Also, nitpicking, while there are respectable vocal moments, there are also some sketchy ones as well…
