Well, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.  I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week, I picked out 11 notable observations from the Billboard 200 📉,  and 7 observations from the Billboard Hot 100 📉, with 🎙 Ed Sheeran debuting at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 💿 = and 🎙 Adele holds down the no. 1 spot on the Hot 100 with 🎵 “Easy on Me”.

Billboard 200 📉

💭 As to be expected, 🏆 Grammy-winning pop singer/songwriter 🎙 Ed Sheeran debuts at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 💿 =.  Sheeran knocks 🎙 Drake (💿 Certified Lover Boy) out of the top spot.

💭 🏆 Grammy winner 🎙 Megan Thee Stallion debuts at no. 5 with her mixtape, 💿 Something for Thee Hotties. 

💭 🎙 Mastodon debuts at no. 20 with 💿 Hushed and Grim.

💭 🎙 The War on Drugs debuts at no. 22 with 💿 I Don’t Live Here Anymore.  The Grammy-winning collective previously peaked at no. 10 with 💿 A Deeper Understanding, which was released in 2017.

💭 After debuting at no. 10, 🎙 Elton John sees 💿 The Lockdown Sessions slide 31 spots to no 41.

💭 Did you know that 🎙 A$AP Rocky released a new album? Me neither.  💿 Live.Love.A$AP debuts modestly at no. 43.  Rocky’s previous three albums – 💿 Long.Live.A$AP (2013), 💿 AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP (2015), and 💿 TESTING (2018) – debuted at no. 1, no. 1, and no. 4 respectively.

💭 🎙 Big Sean and 🎙 Hit-Boy launch modestly at no. 76 with 💿 What You Expect (EP).

💭 🎙 Tori Amos debuts at no. 104 with 💿 Ocean to Ocean.

💭 🎙 Lana Del Rey had a truly awful second week.  💿 Blue Banisters, after debuting at no. 8 last week, free falls to no. 106! 

💭 🎙 Pentatonix debuts at no. 109 with their latest holiday effort, 💿 Evergreen.

💭 🎙 Limp Bizkit surprised a select few with their comeback album, Still Sucks.  Unfortunately, it debuts mediocrely at no. 155.


Billboard Hot 100 📉 

💭 🎙 Adele holds down the no. 1 spot on the Hot 100 for a third consecutive week with 🎵 “Easy on Me”.  Anybody surprised? Nope, didn’t think so.

💭 🎙 Glass Animals sees 🎵 “Heat Waves” enter the top-10 of the Hot 100 after 42 weeks in.

💭 🎙 Ed Sheeran, expectedly, impacts the Hot 100 with = debut at no. 1 on the Billboard 200.  The highest debut from his new album is 🎵 “Overpass Graffiti” at no. 41.

💭 🎙 Lil Uzi Vert debuts at no. 61 with 🎵 “Demon High”.

💭 🎙 Yung Miami debuts at no. 81 with 🎵 “Rap Freaks.”  

💭 🎙 Megan Thee Stallion debuts at no. 82 with 🎵 “Eat It.”

💭 🎙 Benson Boone debuts at no. 100 with 🎵 “Ghost Town.”
