Dustin Lynch, Current Mood © Broken BowTennessee country singer Dustin Lynch is “Seein’ Red” and for the most part, not to mention contextually, that’s a good thing.

Maybe it’s all visual, but Dustin Lynch seems like he’s onto something with his third studio album, Current Mood.  C’mon, he’s got to know that most dudes wish they could rock a cowboy hat the way he does! In all seriousness, something about Current Mood suggests it could be ‘breakout’ for the underrated musician.  Sure, he’s had some success, but could this be the ultimate ‘come up.’ “Seein’ Red” served as the first single for the album, arriving in 2016.  More recently, closer to the album’s release, Lynch dropped “Small Town Boy” and “Love Me or Leave Me Alone.”

From the jump, “Seein’ Red” is energetic, featuring a driving, rhythmic groove.  Interestingly, it’s set in a minor key, giving it a notably darker sound.  No, “Seein’ Red” doesn’t sound like a horror movie or anything extreme, but it has a notable edge.  Lynch plays off of this edge well, giving a commanding, expressive vocal performance.  He doesn’t over sing by any means, but he’s definitely “on” as the rappers would say.

The cons? Well, for starters, blue is actually my favorite color, so that’s a bit of buzzkill.  Also, the colors for my favorite team, the Kentucky Wildcats, are blue and white. The hated rivals, The Louisville Cardinals, are black and red.  That’s another problem.  But in all seriousness, there’s not much to knock about “Seein’ Red.”  This isn’t game changing stuff from Dustin Lynch, but the way he flexes on the track is impressive.

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Seein’ Red,” the first of the three singles from the album, yet the third I personally listened to, is another standout.  It’s fun, energetic, and sexy without crossing any lines.  Vocally, Dustin Lynch sounds as good as he looks…in a cowboy hat.  Take that as a compliment.
