ell, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.  I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week, I picked out 8 notable observations from the Billboard 200 📉,  and 8 observations from the Billboard Hot 100 📉, with 🎙 Don Toliver debuting at no. 2 on the Billboard 200, and 🎙 Lil Nas X and 🎙 Jack Harlow ascending to the top spot on the Hot 100.

Billboard 200 📉

💭 🎙 Drake returns to the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.  💿 Certified Lover Boy – “kind of a big deal!”

💭 Drizzy holds off 🎙 Don Toliver from earning that no. 1 spot. 💿 Life of a Don debuts at a career high no. 2.

💭 Country musician 🎙 Cody Johnson secures a top-20 album with 💿 Human: The Double Album, which launches at no. 19.  🎙 Aespa earns the final spot in the top-20 with the bow of 💿 Savage (EP).

💭 Another country act, 🎙 Old Dominion, debuts at no. 27 with 💿 Time, Tequila & Therapy

💭 🎙 Aaliyah returns to the Billboard 200 with 💿 Ultimate Aaliyah, which launches at no. 41.

💭 🎙 Kacey Musgraves started out respectably with 💿 Star-Crossed, but five weeks in, the 🏆 Grammy-winner sees the album slide from no. 38 to no. 65. OUCH!

💭 🎙 Trivium arrives modestly at no. 71 with 💿 In the Court of the Dragon.  Award-winning alternative musician 🎙 James Blake also arrives modestly at no. 75 with his fifth album, 💿 Friends That Break Your Heart.

💭 Midwest rapper 🎙 Tech N9ne earns a top-100 debut with 💿 ASIN9NE, bowing at no. 82.

Billboard Hot 100 📉

💭 After 12 weeks on the chart, 🎙 Lil Nas X and 🎙 Jack Harlow finally see hit single 🎵 “Industry Baby” ascend to no. 1.  To quote Sam Cooke, “It’s been a long time coming…” “Industry Baby” debuted at no. 2 btw.

💭 Don’t cry for 🎙 The Kid LAROI and 🎙 Justin Bieber🎵 “Stay” slips from no. 1 to no. 2 after being one of the summer’s dominant singles.  So far, it’s been certified double platinum.

💭 Country musician 🎙 Walker Hayes remains at no. 3 with his platinum-certified single 🎵 “Fancy Like,” but sees gains in performance.

💭 🎙 Wizkid is on the rise with 🎵 “Essence” featuring 🎙 Justin Bieber and 🎙 Tems.  This week, the single ascends from no. 10 to no. 9.

💭 🎙 Doja Cat seems so close to breaking into the top 10 with 🎵 “Need to Know”.  This week, the single rises from no. 13 to no. 11 after 18 weeks on the charts.  Also, worth noting, 🎵 “Ain’t Shit” re-enters the Hot 100 at no. 96.

💭 Only one single debuts in the top 20 of the Hot 100.  That would be 🎵 “Who Want Smoke??” by 🎙 Nardo Wick featuring 🎙 G Herbo, 🎙 Lil Durk, and 🎙 21 Savage.  It starts at no. 17.

💭 Expectedly, 🎙 Don Toliver makes an impact on the Hot 100.  🎵 “Flocky Flocky” featuring 🎙 Travis Scott bows at no. 53.

💭 🎙 Adele launches at no. 68 with 🎵 “Easy on Me”.  Now the question is, how far will the comeback single ascend leading up to her highly anticipated fourth studio album, 30?

💭 🎙 Jonas Brothers earn another entry on the Hot 100 with 🎵 “Who’s in Your Head.” “Who’s in Your Head” debuts at no. 95.
