Still explicit, raunchy, and unapologetic to the nth degree, “Deep Throat” famous rapper cupcakKe drops her latest album, ‘Ephorize. Despite the filth, it has its moments.

“Hump me, f**k me / Daddy better make me choke / Hump me, f**k me / My tunnel loves to deep throat.” Yeah, that exemplifies the unapologetic, raunchy, risqué rapper cupcakKe.  The particular song those lyrics are excerpted from is “Deepthroat”, one of two songs by the rapper appearing on a previous playlist, 10 Filthy Songs by Female Rappers.  Despite being shocked by cupcakKe for a while, Ephorize is the first album I’ve listened to and review. What a trip…

“Cartoons”

Things start off respectably with “2 Minutes,” which actually lasts more than three.  Okay, okay, cupcakKe isn’t referencing the length of this song, but rather, she examines life.  “What you gonna do in the next 2 minutes?” Deep for her to say the least. Promo single “Cartoons” follows, opening mysteriously, with quirky, ‘seedy-sounding’ production. The production foreshadows the heat that’s about to drop. Expectedly, she enters turned up to the nth degree with quick, hard AF rhymes that aren’t nearly as childish or playful as the title might suggest.  The hook is cartoonish and catchy.

“I can make your d**k stand up…/ Like Statue of Liberty once we f**k.” “Duck Duck Goose” is one of many records that raunchily depicts sex.  Like the aforementioned “Deepthroat,” cupcakKe doesn’t restrain herself in the least.  The flow is impressive with agile, hard-nosed rhymes, but substance is eschewed.  She takes a break from freakiness on “Wisdom Teeth,” opting for toughness and wisdom.  The hook is corny, but again, she proves that there’s legitimate skills as she raps.

“Crayons”

“Yeah, in conclusion, the gays ain’t losing / Like boomerang ‘cause I’m all about the movement.” “Crayons” stands out from the bunch instantly – an LGBT anthem.  Perhaps this isn’t one of the more heavyweight anthems of “love is love,” but it successfully conveys a socially relevant message. Props. Following the colorful “Crayons,” nobody is going to box cupcakKe in like “Cinnamon Toast Crunch.” It’s utterly ridiculous, but again, we get the point, along with aggressive, unapologetic rhymes.

On “Exit,” cupcakKe isn’t going to be done wrong by any men.  “Get the f**k out of my place (you can exit) / You the ex in exit for f**kin’ on your ex’s.” “Self Interview” moves beyond pleasure and cheating exes, tackling her own life and the problems with society.  “Females have sex on the first night / They get called a ho for that one night stand / Men have sex on the first night / ‘Congratulations, you got around her bands.’”

“Navel”

Hip-hop’s new favorite instrument dominates the sound of “Navel” – the flute.  It’s a nice contrast, considering the beat remains hard, while cupcakKe certainly doesn’t back down. The sex is out of control on “Spoiled Milk Titties,” which is even filthier than the aforementioned “Duck Duck Goose.” “Alter ego is a freak ho / D**k swimming like Finding Nemo / Bootyhole shaped like a zero / And the twat a upside down Dorito.” WTF! Cringe, cringe, CRINGE! It actually gets even more X-rated, but you can listen/read the lyrics for yourself.

On “Total,” cupcakKe speaks on matters of the heart. She’s being serious, but not too serious – ya feel me? Speaking of a lack of seriousness, “Post Pic” finds the rapper in full on objectification mode. Concerned with capturing the perfect picture, she asserts the dudes who see her pics will pleasure himself to put it nicely… Clearly, there’s an obsession from her perspective with what guys are doing with their private parts.

Hardnosed, ‘DGAF’ cupcakKe comes back full force on “Meet & Greet.”  She doesn’t serve up anything ‘brand new’ or groundbreaking, but her attitude is a selling point. Penultimate joint “Single While Taken” doesn’t back down.  She’s honest about the status of her relationship due to ‘not feeling the love.’ The tropically-tinged sound of “Fullest” certainly concludes Ephorize intriguingly.

Final Thoughts

Going into my first cupcakKe album, I was apprehensive.  Coming out of it, I was more impressed than anticipated. Still, Ephorize isn’t the ‘second coming,’ but possesses its fair share of likable moments.  cupcakKe has got bars.  The main issue, even with the redeemable qualities of Ephorize is that the raunchiness of her content is overbearing at times. Some of her best moments come when she eschews sex for deeper subject matter, such as “Crayons.”
