Chris Young, Losing Sleep © RCAChris Young drops another winning song with “Holiday,” a teaser track from his sixth studio album, ‘Losing Sleep.’

It’s hard to believe that Chris Young has been around since 2006.  The 32-year old, to date, has released five studio albums, as well as a Christmas album.  Losing Sleep (arriving October 20) marks his sixth studio effort.  Ahead of Losing Sleep, Young issued several singles, including the title track, “Hangin’ On,” and “Holiday.” “Holiday,” albeit it brief, gives Young another well-rounded record all in all.

“Holiday” commences with a soulful, country groove. It feels warm and inviting from the jump, exhibiting some throwback vibes.  As always, Young gives an excellent vocal performance.  He showcases poise, but also adds in ample flavor with his twang and nuance.  The production is balanced.  It neither under- nor over-produced.  Throughout the course of “Holiday,” the instrumental touches – guitar, pedal steel, etc. – are thoughtful.  The chorus is catchy and well-sung.  Young doesn’t offer or integrate anything ‘brand-new’ per se, but it’s definitely a selling point (“You make me want to make a margarita…”).

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Holiday” is brief, enjoyable, and well-rounded country.  It’s not transcendent or ground breaking, but its rock solid.  There are no glaring cons to speak of here.  It seems that “Holiday” sets up Young for success on  Losing Sleep.
