He didn’t just kill them though – he violated the corpses through cannibalism, dismemberment, and necrophilia. Historically, he changed the game as absolutely abhorrent as that is. The Black Dahlia Murder tackles the devilish serial killer on “Control,” as song from their 2013 album, Everblack. “Control” references his salaciousness, lobotomies, and most colorfully, “animated fuck-dolls.”

Interestingly, The Black Dahlia Murder covered de Rais on Chilling Songs About Serial Killers, Take 5 (“The Window”). On ‘Take 6,’ we leave it up to doom metal vets Macabre to depict his perversions on “The Dark Night.” As you read from the introductory lyrical quote, they don’t sugarcoat the perverted, twisted person that Gilles de Rais was.

“Lunatic, you are just a maniac / Lunatic, on thoughts you do react / Lunatic, death is your domain / Lunatic, you’re the man with rotten brains.” Ah, Japanese metal band Sigh gets in on the serial killer coverage. Before the aforementioned quote from “In the Mind of a Lunatic,” the band starts the story of Jack the Ripper is buying a girl for pleasure.
“A man is searching for a girl to get him through the night / And with a smile he gets a lady for he knows his price is right / Off they go into an alley it’s just around the bend / But one’s not coming back for the Ripper’s loose again.”
Sigh goes on to expound on the man’s intentions. Also, like many of the artists on this list, great emphasis is placed on the worthlessness of the victims. That shouldn’t be the case, despite their profession, but social status is STILL more important than it should be.
“Deep does cut the knife into another lady’s life / For a man is killing off the corner whores / And with a steady hand he creeps around the land / This slashing fiend does bring a scene of gore/ From top down to the bottom his victims feel the knife / For with precision and great care they have been cut / The horror of their faces are now stuck in scenes of fright / From the brutal acts committed on these sluts.”

Rader was one of those ‘model citizen’ types, yet, he was living a completely different life behind closed doors. Interestingly, his arrogance caused him to be captured after evading it for years. Shame on him.
On a previous list, Steven Wilson had the honors of tackling BTK with his song, “Raider II.” Here, New York death metal band Suffocation take on the task on the fittingly titled “Bind Torture Kill.”

“Bind torture, and kill.” While the fire’s hot, might as well add fuel to it. Suicide Commando gets in on the BTK action with his own “Bind Torture Kill.” There is a contrast. Suicide Commando isn’t a death metal band, but rather and electro-industrial act. That’s a contrast to our lists, which are predominantly comprised of metal bands. Also, Suicide Commando hails from Belgium as opposed to stateside.
The sound of “Bind Torture Kill” is incredibly foreboding, thanks to a dark, electronic sound palette. That should be the case. Just imagine how the poor, innocent victims of Dennis Rader felt as he was imposing death on them.

Screaming Lord Sutch & The Savages were a British rock band from the 1960s. In 1963, the band first gave the world a glimpse into the evils of Jack the Ripper, in the most tongue-n-cheek way possible.
“He’s got a big black cloak hangin’ down his back / The Ripper, Jack the Ripper /That’s one big cat I just hate to fight / The Ripper, Jack the Ripper / When he walks down the streets / Every girl he meets he says; is you name Mary Kelly?”
They accurately nail the fact that Jack the Ripper was never caught.

English punk band The Adverts bestow one twisted song on the world with “Gary Gilmore’s Eyes.” First thing’s first though – who was Gary Gilmore? He was an American thief and a murderer. He doesn’t have the body count of some these guys, but he killed two men for no reason. Ultimately, he was sentenced to death and executed by firing squad.
So, what’s so twisted about this particular song? Apparently, in this fictional gem, Gary Gilmore’s corneas were donated to someone. Given the horrible person that Gilmore was, the person is literally “looking through Gary Gilmore’s eyes.”

The band is both famous as well as infamous, depending on where you stand. The themes are definitely not for the ‘faint of heart.’ On “Angel of Death,” the up-tempo opener from Reign in Blood (1986), the metal vets tackle Joseph Mengele. Mengele was an infamous doctor at the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II, known for his “inhumane medical experimentation upon the prisoners.”

Fans of American Horror Story may not have realized that character Dr. Arthur Arden (James Cromwell) was based on Mengele. “Angel of Death” was the nickname for Mengele, in addition to being the song’s title.

Ultimately, they simply confirm he was a bad, bad man.

Ah, a new monster appears – Robert Berdella. This dude was known as ‘The Kansas City Butcher.’ He was one of the few homosexual killers, a breed that are especially scary when it comes to serial killing. Unlike the most famous homosexual serial killers (Dahmer and Gacy), Berdella has a smaller body count. Still, he was no slouch. There was incapacitation by drugs, torture, human dissection… Yeah.
Canadian heavy metal band Kittie captures the horror on “Charlotte.” According to Songfacts, the inspiration for the song came from book entitled Rites of Burial. That book is about our serial killer at hand. The song only features a couple of lyrics, but the angst is turned up to the nth degree right from the start.

On “Blood Red Sandman,” Finnish metal band Lordi concocts its own hellish serial killer: Blood Red Sandman. However, the band seems inspired by the infamous Jack the Ripper. The best evidence of arrives on the first verse of the song.
“They call me the Leather Apron / They call me Smiling Jack / They pray to the heavens above / That I would never ever come back.”
“Leather Apron” and “Smiling Jack” were nicknames for Jack the Ripper. Beyond this, Lordi uses its own creativity to depict the evil Blood Red Sandman.
“Once again / There is pain / I bring flames / I bring cold / I’m the Blood Red Sandman / Coming home / On this unholy night / I will make you my own…”
