Bryson Tiller, True to Self © RCABryson Tiller takes ‘True to Self’ to no. 1 on the Billboard 200.  Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee & Justin Bieber remain at no. 1 on the Hot 100 with “Despacito.”

Come-up complete.  Louisville, Kentucky rapper and singer Bryson Tiller debuts at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with his sophomore album, True to Self.  Amazingly, True to Self arrived a month ahead of its scheduled release date.  The numbers weren’t too shabby for the 24-year old, who moved 107,000 units.  Pure sales are another story, as True to Self only roughly 44% of that total (47,000 copies according to Billboard).

In addition to Tiller, there were some other notable moments within the top 10 of the Billboard 200.  The Beatles return with a reissued edition of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, landing at no. 3.  Interestingly, while The Beatles only moved 75,000 units, they far outpaced Tiller in the sales department.  Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band sold a robust 95% of its total units.  The polarizing debut by Lil Yachty, Teenage Emotions, starts at no. 5, to the tune of 46,000 units.  Only about 43% of that total make up album sales.  Also, a Latin compilation, Summer Latin Hits 2017, debuts at no. 9.

On the Billboard Hot 100, “Despacito (Remix)” (Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber) continues to be the song to beat.  “Despacito” has now spent four weeks at no. 1.  Beyond the aforementioned highlights, there are numerous takeaways from the Billboard 200 and the Billboard Hot 100 dated June 17, 2017.
