Cardi B, Bartier Cardi © AtlanticUp-and-coming female rapper Cardi B returns as the lead artist on tough-minded single “Bartier Cardi.” She’s assisted by ubiquitous rapper, 21 Savage.

Cardi B had a tremendous musical year in 2017.  Truly, the former stripper ‘came up’ big time.’ Her crowning achievement of 2017 was her no. 1 hit, Grammy-nominated single, “Bodak Yellow.” Even so, she also appeared on another top-10 hit, G-Eazy’s banger, “No Limit.” Also, can’t exclude her appearance on Migos’ “Motorsport.” All the previous successes aside, she returns with her own new single, “Bartier Cardi,” tapping 21 Savage for the assist.

“Bartier Cardi” is edgy from the start, sharing the hook early on. She follows up with her first verse.  Here, she exhibits an electric flow, while her rhymes are feisty, gritty, and unapologetic.  Essentially, the same Cardi B we’ve experienced throughout 2017 remains firmly intact.  21 Savage appears on the second verse, retaining his signature deadpan, low-energy approach.  Sometimes this works and sometimes not.  Contextually, it is successful. That said, the success of 21 doesn’t trump the lead artist.  She delivers a respectable third verse following 21.

Final Thoughts

So, how does “Bartier Cardi” stack up? It’s another compelling banger by all means. It’s not game changing, but it continues to give listeners the idea of the sort of artist that Cardi B is.  It’s tough-minded if nothing else, something a number of female rappers have experienced success with in the past (Eve, Nicki Minaj, and Trina come to mind).
