Bring on the controversy! Controversial Tunes 😈🎶 is a column that provides background information and insight into songs that raised eyebrows and totally stirred the pot. The records that grace Controversial Tunes are old and new alike, with all genres of music welcome. In the 22nd edition of Controversial Tunes (2022), we explore the controversy behind the song, 🎵 “Meat Hook Sodomy” by 🎙 Cannibal Corpse.
Theme & Lyrics ✍
While the music is brash and rough around the edges, nothing stands out more than the lyrics, which are controversial because they are so crude, cruel, and raw to the nth degree. I mean, it’s not in every song you hear about “Debauchery with dead bodies, turning green” or the “Upheaval of human entrails / Deterioration of grated genitals,” all thanks to “Obscene feelings deep inside me.” Woo! That’s only the beginning considering those lyrics are excerpted from the first verse. In the second, the lyrics continue to be morbidly poetic as 🎙 Chris Barnes admits to exploring “My thoughts through murder / Devoting my life to mutilation.” Yikes – that sounds utterly psychopathic! It’s definitely not family friendly that Barnes speaks of “Razor sharp hooks implanted in your rectum /… Sodomizing living beings with my utensils,” and gets specific about his dark, hellish therapy that ultimately leaves the victim “Bleeding from your arse, sudden blood ejection.” Mercy!
