Black Veil Brides, Vale © RepublicIn advance of Comeback, fifth studio album, ‘Vale’, Rock band Black Veil Brides drop the album’s fourth single, “The Last One.”

“The Last One” serves as the final single released in advance of Vale (January 12, 2018). Vale is the highly-anticipated comeback album by rock band Black Veil Brides. Prior to Vale, the L.A. based metalcore collective has been missing-in-action for more than three years (Black Veil Brides, Fall 2014). Notably, Andy Black (aka Six, Biersack, etc.) released an underrated solo album between the band’s albums (The Shadow Side, 2016). But the focus is on the enjoyable single at hand.

“The Last One” commences enigmatically, led initially by moody piano accompaniment.   Gradually, it builds up into a dynamic, rocking number, over the course of a minute-long intro. Andy Six enters north of the first minute, flaunting his distinct, robust, angst-laden vocals from the onset. His investment and passion is undebatable.  The chorus represents the best moment.

“I swear this time is gonna be the last one / Gonna be the last one / This time is gonna be the last one / Gonna be the last one.”

Additionally, the bridge is pretty sweet, providing welcome contrast. Musically, overall, Andy Six he has a background of driving, ‘souped-up’ guitars fueling his fire and matching his angst, energy, and grit.

Final Thoughts

All in all, “The Last One” gives Black Veil Brides another enjoyable, sound record.  It’s well-performed, well-produced, and ultimately, well-rounded. Is this the second coming? No, but there’s definitely something here.
