Billboard 200 Grooves: Drake Takes ‘More Life’ to No. 1

Drake continues to be the “biggest thing since sliced bread.” His playlist-album, ‘More Life’ debuts robustly at no. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Beyond Drake, Rick Ross (Rather You Than Me) and Depeche Mode (Spirit) both charted in the top-five.  While Drake, Rick Ross, and Depeche Mode are among the biggest chart attractions, but there are more takeaways from the Billboard 200 dated April 8, 2017.

1. Drake is unstoppable. After crashing onto the Billboard 200 in 2016 with Views, he returns once more with More Life, a so-called “playlist-album.” It’s not nearly as big as Views, but still a very big deal.

2. Ed Sheeran (÷) slips to no. 2 after spending two consecutive weeks at no. 1. The numbers are still looking awesome for the British pop sensation.

3. Rick Ross was unable to add another no. 1 album to his belt, but don’t feel bad for Rozay. Rather You Than Me performed soundly, earning the no. 3 spot on the Billboard 200.

4. Beauty and the Beast continues to perform well as the soundtrack slips just one spot from no. 3 to no. 4.

5. Depeche Mode earns another top-five album with Spirit, which bows respectably at no. 5. Impressively, most of the album’s totals were pure sales.

6. Future has only one album that remains the top 10 this week. Future slips from no. 6 to no. 8. As for HNDRXX, it slips from no. 9 to no. 12.

7. Elevation Worship lands just outside of the top-10 with There Is A Cloud, which starts at no. 11.

8. Up-and-coming R&B artist Khalid sees his debut album American Teen slip three spots from no. 13 to no. 16.

9. Spoons lands at no. 17 with its latest album, Hot Thoughts.

10. Metallica returns back to earth this week as Hardwired…To Self-Destruct slips from no. 2 to no. 19.

11. Zara Larsson debuts at no. 26 with So Good.

12. Pitbull has a lackadaisical week on the charts as his new album Climate Change starts modestly at no. 29.

13. Chuck Berry debuts at no. 33 on the Billboard 200 with Chuck Berry: The Definitive Collection.

14. The soundtrack for the original motion picture Sing ascends from no. 55 to no. 37.

15. Tedeschi Trucks Band debuts at no. 39 with live album Live From the Fox Oakland.

16. Milky Chance lands at no. 64 with latest album, Blossom.

17. Gary Clark, Jr. debuts at no. 80 with Live / North America 2016.

18. KXM bows at no. 81 with Scatterbrain.

19. Tennis takes Yours Conditionally to no. 91 on the Billboard 200.

20. Real Estate arrives at no. 100 with In Mind.

21. The Shins free fall as Heartworms drops from no. 20 to no. 106 in its second charting week.

22. 2 Cellos and the London Symphony Orchestra take Score to no. 119.
