Drake, More Life © Cash MoneyDrake has ‘More Life’ at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 – literally.  Trey Songz debuts at no. 3 with ‘Tremaine the Album.

Indeed, Drake has More Life at no. 1 on the Billboard 200.  Drake sees his playlist-album remain in the no. 1 spot.  More Life still performed robustly in its second week, moving 225,000 units.  The catch? Only a small percentage – 19% – of those 225,000 units are pure sales! Streaming is the new normal, and ultimately, it still earns Drake platinum plaques. More Life should be no different.

The biggest debut of the week belongs to Trey Songz.  Unfortunately, Tremaine The Album didn’t exactly light the charts on fire.  First of all, it had to settle for a no. 3 start.  The return of Drake to no. 1 wasn’t shocking, but he couldn’t even stop Ed Sheeran, whose ÷ has been out for a month. ÷ far outpaced Tremaine, which moved 67,000 units.  Only 67% of the 67,000 units Tremaine moved were pure sales.  Ouch, Trey.

Beyond Drake, Ed Sheeran, and Trey Songz, the top 10 is relatively uneventful.  The Beauty and the Beast soundtrack continues to be a force, not far behind TremaineMetallica seems to have reclaimed swag once more with Hardwired…to Self-DestructRick Ross exits the top-five, but remains in the top 10 (no. 8) with Rather You Than Me.  Otherwise, the Moana soundtrack, Future (Future) and The Weeknd (Starboy) fill out the top 10.  Essentially, more of the same.

So, who’s got next on the Billboard 200? Um…More Life for Drake perhaps? Kodak Black (Painting Pictures), MercyMe (Lifer), Young Dolph (Bulletproof), and Mastodon (Emperor of Sand) all have a chance at impacting the charts, but the question is just how impactful they will be.  Likely, More Life seems like the safe bet.
