Ava Max, “Weapons” | Track Review 🎵

Ava Max brings a heaping dose of empowerment on “Weapons,” the third advance single from her 2023 sophomore album, Diamonds & Dancefloors.

“Stop, using your words as weapons.”  Yes, ma’am, 🎙 Ava Max! Max has had a strong year in 2022 ahead of the release of her 2023, sophomore album, 💿 Diamonds & Dancefloors.  After impressing with singles 🎵 “Maybe You’re The Problem” and 🎵 “Million Dollar Baby”, Max remains locked-in on the third advanced single, 🎵 “Weapons”. 

“Weapons” has plenty of pros.  It begins with the bright production, which is slickly executed with its picturesque keys and synths.  Furthermore, the driving groove is a major selling point.  Tuneful melodies tickle the ear’s fancy, throughout the verses, pre-chorus, and the crème de la crème, the chorus.  The chorus is empowering and memorable:

“Stop using your words as weapons

They’re never gonna shoot me down

Stop, it’s time that you learned a lesson

My love is gonna drown you out

You wanna fight? Do you wanna dance?

‘Cause tonight might be the only chance, so

Stop using your words as weapons.”

Beyond the production and empowering lyrics (“Got a bulletproof vest under my dress”), the big reason why “Weapons” is a success is none other than Ava Max herself.  She delivers resolute, fortitudinous vocals, sounding commanding and utterly sublime.  Also, worth highlighting, she delivers tasteful ad-libs throughout, particularly towards the end.

Final Thoughts 💭 

While 🎵 “Weapons” is brief at just two-and-a-half minutes, Ava Max makes the experience incredibly sweet.  Will it change your life? Maybe, maybe not, but “Weapons” is sure to enhance your playlist, particularly if you need encouragement and a big time pick me up.
