Welcome to Music Lifts 🎶 🏋, a column that seeks to highlight songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity.  Featured songs aren’t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better – be LIFTED to new heights!  So, for the 53rd edition of Music Lifts 🎶 🏋 (2023), we highlight 🎵I Came That You Might Have My Life” as performed by 🎙 Andrae Crouch.

It feels appropriate to begin with scripture. Examining John 10:10, it reads, 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Wow, that is a powerful, powerful word 🙌. The follow-up, in John 10:11, puts a cap on it: 11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. These verses fuel ⛽️ the fire 🔥 when it comes to 🎵 “I Came That You Might Have My Life”, a classic gospel song by the late, great 🎙 Andrae Crouch. Crouch ministers through the song about Jesus sacrificing himself – his life – for the world.  Jesus is the ultimate good shepherd, perfectly embodied in this gospel record.

“I come that you might have life more abundantly / I come that you might have life through eternity,” 🎙 Andrae Crouch and the Disciples sing early on in “I Came That You Might Have My Life.” Crouch, singing solo, follows up with Jesus’ assertion, “I didn’t come to condemn the world / Nor shame you for your wrong / But I came to mend your broken heart and give your heart a song.” Sigh, those are breathtaking and inspiring lyrics.  Crouch and company proceed to speak of the importance of having Christ because without Him, IT’S BAD!!! The Disciples emphasize the titular lyric, “I come to give you life,” as well as variations which include giving joy and love.  Again, the message focuses on Jesus being the ultimate good shepherd, one you should definitely follow because He won’t ever leave, fail you, or lead you astray.  AIN’T THAT GOOD NEWS 📰?! In addition to the awesome message, Andrae Crouch and The Disciples sound amazing, and the music oozes with soul! 🎵 “I Came That You Might Have My Life”, an oldie, is perfectly suited to uplift years and years later!
