All Time Low return with new single “Take Cover.” “Take Cover” serves as a promo single for live album, ‘Straight to DVD II’.

Punk-pop/emo band All Time Low returns September 9 with a new live album, Straight to DVD IIWhat better way to promote a live set than a new single? That’s where “Take Cover” comes into play!  “Take Cover” isn’t “the second coming,” but it’s enjoyable by all means.

“Take Cover” features a nice opening with a guitar ostinato.  Despite the excellent musical initiation, it takes a while for this cut to gel. Ultimately, the production work is sound, particularly with the vocal effects placed on frontman Alex Gaskarth vocals. The “emo” nature of this song comes together best on the chorus.  After hearing the chorus and absorbing the lyrics, it makes more sense where the band is going with “Take Cover.”

“Singing, ‘oh, take cover, take cover’ / singing, ‘oh, take cover, take cover / secrets don’t make friends / we make love, and love falls apart / singing ‘oh take cover’ / from our future hearts”

Final Thoughts

“Take Cover” is a respectable track, but not a surefire hit. There are plenty of nice cues and features used here. The biggest selling point is clearly the catchy chorus.
