Writing a bold playlist means taking risks, most of which involve the fear of censorship.  That’s definitely the case with the playlist at hand, 11 Songs That are X-Rated, to Some Extent.  Many of the songs featured on this particular playlist hail from other playlists, including one that was originally published and, well, I ultimately ‘pulled the trigger’ and removed it.  Could the same fate happen to this X-rated affair? Perhaps, but until then, we’ll take our chances and ride the risqué wave. Honestly, not all of these songs are even that far to the left – looking at you Marvin Gaye (“The World is Rated X”). Other musicians providing the filthy tunes include Arcade Fire (“Porno”), CupcakKe (“Deepthroat”), Lil Pump (“Stripper Name”), and Trina (“Look Back at Me”).

1. Marvin Gaye, “The World is Rated X”

You’re the Man • Motown • 2019 

The late, great Marvin Gaye on an ‘X-Rated’ playlist – say it ain’t so! Well, it’s not so… really.  The only reasons why “The World is Rated X” appears on 11 Songs That are X-Rated, to Some Extent is because of (1) its song title and (2) it’s a damn good song.  Honestly, “Let’s Get it On” or “Sexual Healing” are much more risqué than the socially-conscious “The World is Rated X” could ever hope to be.

“The World is Rated X” keeps Gaye’s ‘lost’ album, You’re the Man, going strong early on. A superb, socially-charged standout, the production is masterful, led by the agile, robust bass lines, and the lush, dramatic strings. Marvin Gaye is locked-in, showing incredibly authenticity as he laments the corrupt state of the world.  Particularly at the end, he’s totally disturbed and totally riled up:

“Where’s the love? Where’s the peace?
Where’s the joy? Where’s the hope for us all?
God is watching, He knows where you’re at
Yes, he’s watching the situation, that’s a fact.”

2. Lil Pump, “Stripper Name”

18-year-old rapper Lil Pump definitely exemplifies the characterizing‘polarizing.’ He exploded with his 2017 flex-fest “Gucci Gang”, and his profile has only expanded since then. After releasing numerous singles in 2018, he released his sophomore album, Harverd Dropout, in February 2019. Full of bangers short on substance, “Stripper Name” perfectly fits the X-rated sentiment of this playlist – at least to ‘some extent.’ We associate strippers with the strip club, which we associate with all things X-rated.

“Let me tell you somethin’ ‘bout me / Thick white bitch sitting in the front seat / Ridin’ ‘round, 488 ‘Rari / Sippin’ on drank while I’m on a jet ski…” Say what? Focusing on “Stripper Name,” Lil Pump enlists the services of West Coast rapper YG and southern rapper 2 Chainz. It should go without saying that “Stripper Name” goes hella dumb.  At the same time, the record ‘earns its stripes’ as one of the more memorable moments from Harverd Dropout.  The aforementioned Lil Pump hook continues, “I don’t know the bitch, but I know her stripper name.” This definitely isn’t an anthem for feminists… just saying. YG and 2 Chainz match the tastelessness of Lil Pump.  YG describes what he prefers regarding her private parts, as well as what he’s going to ‘do’ with his own.  As for 2 Chainz, well, her references a “necklace,” and likely, it’s a pearl necklace.  We’ll leave that at that… “Stripper Name” first appeared on the nighttime-centric playlist, 13 Songs About and/or Associated with Nighttime.

3.Iggy Azalea, “Kream”

“Ass / Cash, cash / Ass, bags / Bad / ‘Cash rules everything around me’.” On “Kream” (Survive the Summer (EP)), Iggy Azalea literally focuses on those two things. From the beginning, it’s clear that Azalea and featured guest, Tyga, both have the strip club in mind.  The strip club is naturally associated with adult entertainment, which is naturally associated with X-rated happenings. In other words, “Kream” is at home on this X-rated-centric playlist, and isn’t nearly as refined as the Marvin Gaye record that precedes it, sigh.

The production on “Kream” sounds readymade for an adult club, with the content matching that sentiment.  Following the intro, the hook is repetitive, gimmicky, centered around the classic Wu-Tang lyric from “C.R.E.A.M.”.  On the first verse, Iggy amplifies the toughness, exhibiting confidence while dropping pop culture references (Sex Pistols, Bella Hadid), sex, and money.  As for Tyga, he is in his zone, spitting utter filth (“Deep in that p***y, ya I’m drowning) and bragging about money and status (“My n***as like Golden State, inbound, pull up and shoot”). “Kream” is respectable for what it is – a lustful, sexed-up banger.  The risqué “Kream” also appears on the steamy playlist 21 Songs That Dabble in Lust & Carnal Matters.

4. Big Sean & Metro Boomin, “So Good”

Double or Nothing • GOOD / Def Jam / Republic • 2017

“Head so good, p***y so good / If I could quit my job and f**k you all day, shit, I would.”  That pretty much sums up the filthiest, raunchiest song from the 2017 Big Sean/Metro Boomin collaboration, Double or Nothing.  Big Sean is no stranger to incorporating sex into his music, but “So Good” just might ‘take the cake.’ He goes into graphic detail, taunting his size on the first verse (“Got a long d**k, that shit barely fit”).  If that’s not enough, on the same verse, he manages to be blasphemous regarding his performance (“Got so deep in that bitch, it felt spiritual / Flood in that p***y, it’s a miracle”).

Featured guest Kash Doll doesn’t let Big Sean have all the fun, as she focuses on how awesome the sex as well.  If Sean seemed like the boss, self-proclaimed “nasty bitch” Kash Doll makes it clear that she holds the reins: “Last time I let you f**k, it was amazing, shit / Love a n***a who ain’t scared to put his face in it.” Obviously, she’s referring to her own private parts.  And just in case it was perfectly clear, she goes on to say, “And I still remember every single place you licked / So I sucked the soul outcha just to thank that d**k.” This one’s definitely NOT safe for work.  This absolutely filthy, X-rated record also appears on the playlist, 15 Songs That Focus on Private Matters.

5. CupcakKe, “Deepthroat”

Cum Cake • cupcakKe • 2015

“Hump me, f**k me / Daddy better make me choke / Hump me, f**k me / My tunnel loves to deep throat / Lick, lick, lick, lick (I lick it) / I want to eat yo d**k (I do).” What the… You know what’s hard to believe? CupcakKe started out as a church poet.  On the totally X-rated “Deepthroat,” she amplifies sex to the nth degree – understatement! “Deepthroat” hails from the rapper’s inappropriately titled 2015 album, Cum Cake.  Yeah, that totally sounds delicious… The ‘subtlety’ of the hook (aforementioned) is also a sight to behold… said no one ever.

“Mouth wide open, mouth wide open
Mouth wide open like I was at the dentist
Mouth wide open, mouth wide open
Put it so deep, I can’t make a sentence.”

The big takeaway from “Deepthroat” is that it’s a record that’s totally TMI. CupcakKe truly pushes the envelope, adding even more absurd, over-sexed rhymes that publicize the bedroom where it would be better served private.

My p***y mean, and it’s clean

6. Travis Scott, “Pornography”

Rodeo • Epic • 2015

“No monogamy, ménage with me / Pornography surrounding me / You get high with me, you come down with me / That’s all I need in my fantasy…” Starting off your debut album (Rodeo) with a song entitled “Pornography” is certainly a bold statement.  It’s also the perfect way to beg for censorship, otherwise known as censor-shit.

Regardless of the risks associated, this X-rated Travis Scott anthem is a standout, led by the hook, which continues as follows:  “All these flashing lights blinding me / Give you some of me, you want all of me / And get high with me and come down with me / That’s all I need in my fantasy.” Travis Scott also mentions porn again on the second verse in an eyebrow-raising lyric, “I got porno pics, wish I can post them.” Can’t do that Travis – can’t do that!

7. August Alsina, “Porn Star”

Testimony • Def Jam • 2014

“She ride me like a porn star… / She ride me like a pro she did this shit before / I hold her tight, no letting go ‘til she say she can’t take no more / I’m speechless.” R&B singer August Alsina focuses on what his girlfriend can and does ‘do’ to him.  She’s no porn star, but from Alsina’s perspective, that’s how she performs. Obviously, Alsina is open and honest about the events of the bedroom, and that definitely qualifies “Porn Star” (Testimony) as X-rated to some extent, right? Right!

To his credit, he portrays his girlfriend in a position of power.

“She ride it like she never gonna ride this d**k again
She thinking like a G and she ain’t never giving in
She ride it in the back of my car, on the bar
On the stash, on the bed, she ain’t scared cause.”

8. Run the Jewels, “Love Again (Akinyele Back)”

Run the Jewels 2 • Mass Appeal • 2014

“I put that d**k in her mouth all day / …She play with that… / I think I’m in love again.” Sigh, with “Love Again (Akinyele Back),” Run the Jewels create a record that is definitely for ADULTS ONLY. ‘Adult entertainment’ and ‘X-rated’ might as well be the middle names of this explicit joint from Run the Jewels 2! As aforementioned, the hook leaves NOTHING to the imagination, much like anything considered erotic.

Interestingly, Gangsta Boo plays a hyper-sexual, hella pornographic role on her guest verse.

“I had a young player from the hood
Lick my p***y real good
Kept me stuck with lots of wood
Kept my bank account on swoll
Sniffed my p***y like a rose, smokin’ on dro
Made a porn tape, that n***a is a pro, you ain’t know?
He had a lot of bad bitches in his past
But I was the one who turned that boy into a motherf**kin’ man
His tongue is bomb…”

9. Arcade Fire, “Porno”

“You can cry, I won’t go / You can scream, I won’t go / Every man that you know / Would have run at the word go…” Long before the sexual abuse revelations that dominated 2017 and beyond, Win Butler and Arcade Fire spoke of the danger and shamefulness of porn regarding young men on the song “Porno,” a highlight from their 2013 album, Reflektor.  Obviously, any reference to pornography is synonymous with ‘X-rated,’ hence why “Porno” fits this 11 Songs That are X-Rated, to Some Extent, particularly that ‘To Some Extent’ part.

“…Little boys with their porno
Oh, I know they hurt you so
They don’t know what I know
It’s so little that we know.”

Essentially, Arcade Fire suggests that the culture has been wrongfully ingrained into boys, and they don’t know how to properly treat women and properly view sex. According to Butler, boys “…Learn / Some selfish shit / Until the girl / Won’t put up with it.”  Definitely among the most thoughtful ‘X-rated’ songs on this playlist, wouldn’t you agree?

10. Tech N9ne, “Pornographic”

Ft. E-40, Snoop Dogg & Krizz Kaliko

All 6’s and 7’s • Strange Music • 2011

“She blowing me like a bugle / I’m fixing to burst / Just like a water balloon (Water balloon) / She took the rubber off and ate my sperm with a spoon / If that ain’t pornographic / I don’t know what pornographic is.” According to Tech N9ne, “This is the culture where we kiss the chocha.”  That seems, accurate, particularly in the context of the utterly filthy “Pornographic,” which hails from his 2011 album, All 6’s and 7’s.  Pornographic and totally X-rated the record is indeed. Aforementioned, Bay Area standout E-40 is graphic about the pleasure he receives (second verse).

Snoop Dogg focuses on “shit getting heavy” on the third verse.  That ‘shit’ of course is all sexually-driven.

Baby are you ready? This shit is getting heavy
… Double up, bring in Blowjob Betty

In high definition though
I got d**k by your ear

11. Trina, “Look Back at Me”

“Licky, licky, licky licky, licky for an hour / I’mma make it rain for you, here’s a golden shower.” Sigh, there is so much freakiness involved in “Look Back at Me,” among the dirtiest songs EVER. This is the exemplification of X-rated ladies and gentlemen! Trina is assisted by Killer Mike, who also appears on this list with Run The Jewels (“Love Again (Akinyele Back)”). Mike definitely doesn’t clean things up, making a mess of his own, to the tune of “Gave her mayonnaise on the face pearl necklace.”

In addition to pearl necklaces, “Look Back at Me” is chocked-full of paraphilias, or “conditions in which a person’s sexual arousal and gratification depends on fantasizing about and engaging in sexual behavior that is atypical and extreme.” The paraphilias Trina covers: Urolagnia (sexual arousal via urine), Narratophilia (dirty talk), Olfactophilia/Osmolagnia (“carnal interest in and stimulation by body odors…”) and Nasophilia (nose). “Look Back at Me” has appeared on multiple playlists, including the utterly, X-rated 12 Paraphilic, Fetish Songs, 10 Filthy Songs by Female Rapper, and 20 Songs All About Doin’ It. A prime example of Narratophilia?
