1. Thomas Day, “Underwear”

“Underwear” // Arista // 2025

“What a thing to do.” Thomas Day is heartbroken in his ballad, “Underwear”.  Despite its title, “Underwear” isn’t about undies, though they are mentioned: “You left your underwear / But still bought another pair / Like you really had to / Did you have to?” Day and Noah Nockels composed the emotional song about an ex, who Thomas still has feelings for. Rudey produced it. Thomas sounds angelic as he bears his soul. “Why did you leave me there? / Why are you set on running out,” he asks, later asking, “Why you had to change your tone?” In the chorus, he’s dejected, as his ex encourages him to move on:

“You wanted me to love somebody else

But I’m still in love with you

You wanted me to go and fuck myself

‘Cause I’d do anything for you.”

Bummer. Beyond emotional lyrics and a strong vocal performance, Day is backed by lovely musical accompaniment.  The sound is rhythmic yet tender, complementing his hurt feelings.  Going back to the lyric excerpted above, “What a thing to do,” Day is hurt and angry that reconciliation isn’t a possibility.  It’s over whether he likes it or not.  “Underwear” is a winner. Heartbroken, but relatable.

2. Baby Keem, “Pink Panties”

“Call me in the nighttime when you needin’ some dick / Call me any day (anytime) when you needin’ the dick.” Wow, Che Ecru, thanks for informing us. Ecru is sampled on “Pink Panties,” which appears as the second track on The Melodic Blue.  You might say that “Fuck….. Instagram” gives Grammy-winning rapper Baby Keem a lift, at least during the chorus! “Pink Panties” is an entertaining record. It’s also sexual, as to be expected by the sample and the song title. “Put my soul in these condoms, spent time, lil’ bitch / Laid up at the crib on some Seinfeld shit,” Baby Keem spits in the second verse, adding, “We overdue for some fuckin’, huh / We overdue for some suckin’, huh.” Well, that’s between him and her, right? Anyways, besides the chorus by Ecru and the intriguing verses by Keem, the production is a big selling point (Hykeem Carter and Ecru), particularly the synths and the beat.  There’s no way you don’t nod your head to this one, in all its pinkness!

3. City Girls, “Panties An Bra”

“When you come to the spot (Come to the spot) / I’m takin’ it off (Takin’ it off) …” City Girls certainly don’t play around – an understatement. Yung Miami and JT enjoy fewer garments, encouraging certain acts to happen. “Panties An Bra” appears in the duo’s 2018 album, Girl Code. Brief, clocking in under two minutes, it’s enough time for both Yung Miami, who handles most of the song, and JT to express their ‘desires.’  I featured the beginning of the chorus, performed by Miami, but left out a key portion lyrically: “…Open the door (Open the door) / Just panties and bra (Panties and bra).” The sound of the record is hard-nosed, sexed-up, and unapologetic. Other lyrical highlights from Yung Miami focus on ‘the stick’:

“‘Bout to make a porn (Porn, porn, get it, get it)

Boy, I love it when you get right to the business

Lick it, stick it, damn, nigga

Yeah, you got me spoiled (Damn, nigga).”

4. Rauw Alejandro & Daddy Yankee, “PANTIES Y BRASIERES”

What more is there to say but Puerto Rico’s is in the house! Latin Grammy winner Rauw Alejandro collaborates with fellow Latin Grammy winner Daddy Yankee on the fun “PANTIES Y BRASIERES”. “PANTIES Y BRASIERES” is the seventh track from Alejandro’s Grammy-nominated 2023 album, SATURNO.  The energetic joint was produced by El Zorro, Caleb Calloway, and Magicenelbeat.

Daddy Yankee takes the lead early on, delivering aggressive, in-your-face vocals. Memorably, in the intro, he sings [translated], “The girl gets loose if she sees Rauw with the Yankee / It’s raining bras and panties, what, what, what, what?” So, the girls throw lingerie at them? Yes, they do. Alejandro’s vocals aren’t as pronounced as Daddy Yankee, but he’s still assertive and ‘turned up.’ I love how his vocals pop. Memorably, in the first verse, Rauw sings, “Ese culo sube y baja como un Impala” (“That ass goes up and down like an Impala”), describing this girl. The chorus is infectious, where this naughty girl can mask her naughtiness. She’s a badass, and both artists love it. Ultimately, “PANTIES Y BRASIERES” is nothing short of a bop.  It’s a fun, boisterous track that thrives off a sickening reggae groove.  And honestly, can you blame the women for throwing lingerie at Rauw? The man is ¡¡¡Qué jodidamente caliente!!! NO CAP!

5. 42 Dugg, “N.P.O.” (Ft. Sexyy Red)

4eva Us Neva Them // CMG / Interscope // 2024 

“These niggas mad I got their bitches / Ayy, I’m trippin’, bae (Yeah), I’m trickin’, bae, I’m wit’ it bae.” WOO! Rappers 42 Dugg and Sexyy Red make a formidable duo. At least that’s one way to describe their collaboration on “N.P.O.”.  What does “N.P.O.” stand for? It’s an acronym for no panties on 🤭 😏. “N.P.O.” is the seventh track on 42 Dugg’s 2024 album, 4eva Us Neva Them. The three-minute track was produced by G1, T9C, and Nami.  As the excerpted lyric from the first verse suggests, 42 Dugg is the shit.  He’s confident, can attain all the girls he wants, and spoils her: “We been in the Louis store, my bitch won’t put no Fendi on.” Beyond a drippy 42, where does Sexyy Red enter the mix? It begins in the chorus, where ‘on brand,’ she asserts, “I ain’t got no panties on, ain’t got no panties on.” Sexyy Red keeps things sexual, as always: “I ain’t got no panties on, let the coochie show / Throw that ass back, twerk it in his face slow / G-g-grab them leggings on with a fat camel toe.” Typical Sexyy. If nothing else is learned from the naughty, unapologetic “N.P.O.” we know that “She ain’t got no panties on.”

6. Adina Howard, “T-Shirt & Panties” (Ft. Jamie Foxx)

The Second Coming // Rufftown Entertainment // 2004

“I just got one question to ask you though / What’s that? / What do you have on right now?” The answer that R&B singer Adina Howard responds with is “T-shirt and my panties.” “T-Shirt & Panties” is the sixth track from her 2004 album, The Second Coming.  She taps Academy and Grammy-award winner actor/singer/songwriter Jamie Foxx for the assist. Billy Moss produced this naughty joint.

“T-Shirt & Panties” features a slow tempo with sensual music cues and production.  Howard delivers smooth vocals that scream S-E-X.  The most memorable moment of the song is the chorus where she reveals she’s wearing her t-shirt and panties. Still, she has plenty of ear-catching moments in the verses.  In the first, she titillates fiercely: “Picture this / I’m in my bed / Body’s hot / Soaking wet / Thinking ‘bout the things I like to do.” Damn, girl! She gets freakier, say, to the tune of wetness and taste… The second verse is equally nasty, with innuendo-laden lines like “Saddle up and be prepared to ride” and “Gonna turn around / Hit it from behind.” In the third verse/bridge, which features a different melody and harmonic progression, Howard continues her sexual ways, though less overt than the previous verses.  The big takeaway from “T-Shirt & Panties” is… SEX! Duh!

7. The-Dream, “Panties to the Side”

“Let me fuck you babe / Baby / Fuck you baby / Baby.” Underwear often have a sexual connotation, don’t they? That is the case for The-Dream (Terius Nash) on “Panties To The Side”, the ninth track from his third studio album, Love King.  Nash and his ‘partner in crime,’ Christopher “Tricky” Stewart penned and produced “Panties to the Side.” Set in a minor key, the musical backdrop features malicious, menacing synths and an ill groove.  Do you know what is more ill than the groove? The sex, of course!

As the excerpted intro suggests, The-Dream is aggressive from the get-go.  Sex is the modus operandi.  As assertive as he is, Nash’s vocals are smooth as butter.  He sings beautifully despite thinking with his pants.  The vocal harmonies are celestial – nothing hellish about them in the least! Still, there’s no sugarcoating why her panties are to the side. “It started off with just flirtin’,” The-Dream asserts, continuing, “I tried to tell you mama / My mind so dirty.” He didn’t lie about that mind, ooh-wee! Getting her exactly where he wants her, he encourages her, “So come make love to the / Romantic and everything you thought  / You knew I’ma vanish.” Interesting.  Even as he sings ‘come make love,’ “Panties to the Side” feels more like fuckin’ than nuanced love making.  Just sayin’!

8. Matt Fishel, “Boxer Shorts & Razor Blades”

Not Thinking Straight // Young Lust // 2013 

“Picking through the remnants of our life / Sitting squabbling over what belongs to you and which stuff’s mine,” Matt Fishel sings, continuing, “Well, it’s all boxer shorts and razor blades tonight.” “Boxer Shorts & Razor Blades” is the 11^th track from Fishel’s 2013 album, fittingly titled, Not Thinking Straight. He is not straight, of course – he’s out and proud, baby 🌈! Also, the British rock singer/songwriter is, dare I say, handsome 🤫. Matt and his boyfriend are fighting over petty, unimportant shit.  Right now, it’s dumb stuff like undies, but Fishel knows it’ll be something else next.  In the first chorus, he asserts, “And clichés like ‘everything gonna be alright’ / But it’s not alright.”

The relationship issues don’t stop beyond the first verse and chorus. Fishel and his partner seek compromise in the second verse, yet the problems only grow.  “If you could swear to open and talk once in a while,” he sings, continuing, “You cannot keep it all inside for weeks / Then snap at me like an angry child.” Oh, snap! By the third verse, the relationship has ended, yet the feelings still run rampant once Matt encounters his ‘cute’ ex. “You still looked as cute as you ever did / And still the thought of telling people / You’re no longer my boyfriend kills me.” Aww, so sad 😢.  The third and final chorus marks their goodbye. Fishel puts every ounce of his heart into “Boxer Shorts & Razor Blades”.  His voice is beautiful and dynamic, convincingly conveying a painful, ended relationship.  The songwriting is authentic, while the music rocks with high-flying guitars, warm keys, and big drums that hearken back to the rock of old (think 1980s). No, those boxers don’t play a sizable, sexy role into the song, but, it’s a killer song title and song nonetheless 🤘!

9. Pansy Division, “Groovy Underwear”

Deflowered // DistroKid // 1994

“Tight briefs on your sexy butt / White fabric surrounding your nuts.” Underwear are ‘kind of a big deal’ if you are a gay male. Sure, it’s a stereotype, but there is something about the underwear aisle and the ‘packaging’ that ‘hits different’ when you’re not straight. Pop-punk and queercore band Pansy Division sing about undies and the hot guys wearing them in their exuberant song, “Groovy Underwear”. In the horny, titillating first verse, Jon Ginoli continues singing, “Sweat pants clinging to your crevice / Boxer shorts for easy access.”  Yes to both! “Groovy Underwear” is the second track from Pansy Division’s 1994 album, Deflowered.

“Jockstrap showing off your cheeks / Moving in for a closer peek /… Pulled down around your ankles / I’ll make you spill out like an oil tanker.” Holy shit 🤭 😈 🍆 🍑 🤤! On “Groovy Underwear,” the guitars roar. The harmonic progression is simple, which is characteristic of punk and pop-punk music. The melody is tuneful, which is also on-brand for pop-punk. Ginoli sings well, delivering easy-going vocals that bring the gay, boy-loving lyrics to life.  The innuendo is pronounced, and who would have it any other way?! “What fine cakes, what fine batter.” Sometimes, it goes beyond the innuendo directly into S-E-X.  “Stretched tight, so hot / I’ve cum, I’ve shot” is a prime example. In the chorus, Pansy Division sums it up to a tee.  It all comes down to “your groovy underwear.” Well, rather, what’s inside…  “Groovy Underwear” is an unforgettable, gay pop-punk classic.

10.Yung Bans, “In My Underwear”

Rappers have been known to reference boxers and such, so, it’s not that far-fetched Yung Bans drops an undies song that’s not panties related to “In My Underwear” (Yung Bans, 2018). That said, if you were expecting something sexually stimulating with “In My Underwear,” well, you’ll be utterly disappointed, sigh. “Yeah, slidin’ down yo block, big Glock in my underwear / Police pull me over right now, I’m gon’ get the chair,” he raps, continuing, “This a dirty game, if you gon’ play, you gotta stay aware / Niggas doin’ all that talkin’, ain’t no action, how I know you scared.” Yeah, other than referencing a big Glock in his underwear, Yung Bans eschews discussing what he’s wearing… We know he doesn’t wear designer…  He does reference that ‘Glock’ and sex on the sole verse, but it’s NOT romantic: “No love for a bitch, I just bust in her jaw / Fuck that bitch so good I can cheat, she ain’t goin’ nowhere.” Ugh, sounds like a dick that’s only worried about the pleasure he receives via his dick.  Too bad Yung Bans doesn’t specify if he’s a boxer, boxer-brief, or briefs guy!

11. Sisqo, “Thong Song”

Unleash the Dragon // The Island Def Jam Music Group // 1999

“She had dumps (Ugh) like a truck /… Thighs (Ugh) like what (Ugh) /…Baby, move your butt (Ugh).” Da-yum! Let’s just cut straight to the chase. “Thong Song”, a no. 3 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 by Sisqo, a key member of Dru Hill, is all about B-O-O-T-Y.  Call “Thong Song” what it is bluntly – an ass 🍑 anthem.  Sure, club-ready anthems are much raunchier today than they were at the end of the 90s/early 00s, but there is NOTHING refined about “Thong Song.” There is no bigger picture, transcendent mindset on this horny, boned-up R&B record.  Shout out to the slick production by Tim & Bob.

Objectification is the modus operandi, and Sisqo blames it on her. Why? “Listen, that girl so scandalous / And I know another nigga couldn’t handle it / And she shaking that thing like, ‘Who’s the ish?’ / With a look in her eye so devilish.” Given how hot she is, and the fact she’s shaking her butt, she’s got Sisqo by the… Honestly, all three of the verses are pretty much the same vibe – no extensive analysis necessarily. Notably, lyrically, “’Cause she livin’ la vida loca” is repeated throughout “Thong Song.” There was a financial loss for Sisqo and company as a majority of the publishing rights of this song are owned by Desmond Child, who penned “Livin’ La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin.  The sample wasn’t cleared, hence, smaller profits. Refocusing on the song as opposed to legal matters it is what it is – an entertaining booty anthem.
