Even Red Hot Chili Peppers May Not Be Able to Stop Drake
Will it never end? Drake’s dominant reign at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 that is? Possibly. According to Billboard, vet funk-rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers (The Getaway) stand a chance at taking the reins from the hot Views. The keyword just might be chance, though. The numbers for both albums appear to be neck-and-neck, what politics calls “too close to call.”
Why is that potentially bad news for Red Hot Chili Peppers? Regardless if they win out a tough battle against Drake, the numbers proposed (110,000 to 120,000) are a clear downgrade from the past. No, few albums sell particularly well in 2016, but the fact that a new Chili Peppers has a dogfight on its hands against an album that has been on top of the charts for seven weeks is a bit disconcerting.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. What do I personally have against Drake? Nothing – like everyone else, I was there to download my copy of Views the day it was available. But, it’s hard to believe with such “notable” releases that no one has been able to cobble together a big enough week to knock him off. It’s not the sales killing the contenders, it’s the streams.
As for YG’s chances at beating Drake, they’re slim to none. Maybe instead of Drake telling the girl “she’s the best,” he should say tell himself that given his chart performance.
